Franz Kafka And Political Bureaucracy

This course will examine the ways in which the writings and insights of Franz Kafka affect how we view political institutions and bureaucracy. We will examine his three classic works: The Metamorphosis, The Castle, and The Trial to see how they speak to present-day issues in politics. We will discuss both the political (hegemony, power, mobility, due process) and existential (tragedy, isolation, angst, responsibility) ways in which Kafka addresses the human condition.
